Fostering Catholic Creativity in Our Marriage

How to strengthen and have more fun in your marriage with spiritual creativity

My husband asked me to help him shoot some scenes for his next YouTube video.

So we got up at sunrise today to catch that gorgeous early morning lighting, found a peaceful scenic empty field in a nearby park, set up the perfect still shot, propped up our tripod, and hit record on our Sony camera.

🤭 I’m gonna be honest y’all, I really didn’t do much. I’m not so good with all that YouTube cinematography visual/techie equipment stuff.

I was mostly there for support and because I agreed to be in a few seconds of his video opening.

But I’m really glad we did all the things we had to do to get this shot done - give up sleeping in on a cozy Saturday morning, brave the 30 degree weather, stand up to the unforgiving cedar pollen, and get over the the awkwardness of neighbors side eyeing us for our too early in the morning video production project.

It was worth it though. I really enjoyed watching my husband in his element. He’s such a natural visual and creative person, with a keen eye for minimalist filmmaking and a flair for heart-tugging storytelling.

It’s really a wonder to see. He inspires me to enjoy being more playful and creative, to let myself love the loose process of creativity, to be willing to do all the extra things for the sake of capturing beauty, and to be okay with doing whatever we gotta do to get “the perfect shot.”

By the grace of God, I think it all turned out well, we even treated ourselves with a nice coffee date after all our filming!

He’s working now on editing his video, and I can’t wait to share the final product with you very soon. He too, is stepping into God’s call to be more intentional about sharing faith-centered messages as a writer and YouTuber.

I’m just thankful the Lord calls us to be creative together as husband and wife, as we feature our love for our Catholic faith.

We never forget what all this effort is for: only to reflect the goodness of God and to lead more people to His redeeming love. To God always be the glory!
