When God Calls the Fearful Steward

How to overcome your fears to use your God-given gifts as a Catholic creative

St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us.

Do you feel called to use your God-given gifts as a Catholic content creator but you struggle with insecurities about your abilities?

Do you want to respond to the invitation that God has placed in your heart, but you’re paralyzed with fear of rejection, fear of failure, maybe even fear of success?

Perhaps like many of us, you too struggle with feelings of self-loathing and wretchedness about your creativity.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, I believe these fears are all a twisted plot by the evil one to get you to hate yourself, hate your work, hate your calling, and hate your sharing - precisely because you’re called to do work that promotes your faith and glorifies God.

I recently used this message to encourage my husband - when he wrestled with resistance to return to his creative roots and launch God’s calling for him to publish his work as a spiritual writer.

While he questioned how to confront his inner turmoil as a spiritual creative, I reminded him:

“You’ve been blessed with this gift - this rare gift as a writer with a profound love for language arts - and because you’ve been called to direct your writing on more spiritual matters, you’ll surely face spiritual warfare.

The evil one will slither inside your very being. He’ll manipulate your memories, distort your feelings, poison your thoughts, and inject fear all over your outlook so that you’ll be quick to turn away from your gifts, and hide from God’s promptings.

The wicked one will trick you to see things and feel things that aren’t really there - all to confuse you and get you to discard your gifts, and decline God’s calling for you to be faithful in your creativity.”

As I reminded my husband, I remind you this as well.

Don’t resist your God-given gifts.

Don’t deny God’s calling for you to create, for Him.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, you can overcome whatever darkness and defeatist force that pulls you away from the truth, beauty, and goodness of God’s gifts planted within you.

With prayers and trust in Him, you can fully share your God-given gifts and take the first steps do the work God calls you to do!

Let us pray together now - for the healing of our minds, and for the strengthening of our wills - so that we can renounce the darkness within us, and acknowledge God’s voice more clearly.

Fueled by the graces within our God-given gifts, may we all do His work courageously.

Most gracious and generous God, we hear your call to become good stewards of your abundant gifts.

May we become joyful caretakers of the gifts you have entrusted to us.

Help us to use our creative and spiritual gifts wisely and fearlessly.

Empower us to share our gifts with your people more generously.

May our faithfulness in stewarding your gifts be our testimony to your infinite goodness and confident command in our lives.

We pray for all this with willing hearts to answer your call, through the mighty name of your son Jesus.

Amen.

Fiat!

Khristine
